FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WILL MY DAUGHTER MAKE A TEAM IF SHE PARTICIPATES IN TRYOUTS?
Making a team all depends on the number of players trying out for a team, number of players trying for each position for that team and the number of coaches that we have to coach a team. Players are not guaranteed a spot on a team after trying out for our club.
WHAT AGE SHOULD MY DAUGHTER TRYOUT? I SEE “AND UNDER” WHAT DOES THAT MEAN?
The age group that your player should tryout is determined by our governing body – USA Volleyball Date of Birth Guidelines of July 1, 2021 until June 30, 2022. It is whatever age your player will be during that time span.
The description example 11u – means that you cannot be older than 11 during the season but you can be younger (under that age) to play. So if you have a player that is 10 during the season and she tries out and makes an 11u team, that is legal.
Not the other way around I am afraid. Playing “up” is not an option for the family to “tryout for” but if may be an option if staff advised your player can be a key player for an older age group.
HOW OFTEN WILL MY TEAM PRACTICE? AND AT WHAT TIMES?
The finalized practice schedule won’t be available until all teams have been filled. Typically twice a week for two hours each practice. Teams are slotted for practice with “like” teams. Could be all 13’s together or all National teams together. Your coach will be kept in the scheduling loop for maximum training for their age group. We will be using Ultimate Performance facility and the Titan Center.
HOW MANY TOURNAMENTS WILL MY TEAM PARTICIPATE IN THROUGHOUT THE YEAR?
This will depend on what type team your player has been selected. Generally speaking, 7 to 10 events per season. SEE Teams for description for each type team – Open, National and Regional divisions below.
HOW LONG IS YOUR CLUB SEASON?
Playing season is generally November through May. A team that qualifies to participate in a National Championship may play until end of June (depending on when the event has been scheduled for this season. ) 18’s division will complete their regular season earlier than other age division per the guidelines from USAV.
HOW LONG IS MY MEMBERSHIP WITH ULTIMATE?
Once you are a registered member of Ultimate Performance club, that membership last from time of club selection (signed playing agreement) through the end of your last scheduled event (whether you participate in that full schedule or not). You may only be associated with ONE club during a season.
WHEN DO PRACTICES START?
Depending on which team you are selected to play for, the end of November or the first of December.
WHAT DETERMINES THE AMOUNT WE ARE PAYING TO PLAY?
The breakdown per team is formatted with the following items: practice court space fees, coaches stipends, gear, equipment (balls-bags), tournament entry fees, coaches travel expenses, administrative costs. The bulk of all team expenses are paid at the beginning of your season – typically before January 1.
HOW DO WE PAY OUR FEES?
We use the billing system through our website, League Apps. This system will allow you to log-in to your account and setup electronic billing payments. We also accept cash and checks… paid in person, mailed, or placed in our drop box, however, everyone must have an online record.
WE HEARD THAT THIS PAST SEASON THAT CLUBS HAD TO STOP PLAYING EARLY BEFORE THE END OF SEASON. IF THIS HAPPENS AGAIN, ARE ALL OF OUR MONEY PAID REFUNDED?
Because of things beyond our club’s control we along with thousands of other clubs across the nation, had to stop playing. We will take into account all aspects of the reason for the closure and try to be fair as possible to all accounts that are paid.
I HEARD THAT ULTIMATE PERFORMANCE WEARS ADIDAS APPAREL. IS MY ATHLETE REQUIRED TO WEAR ADIDAS SHOES?
Adidas shoes are not required but we recommend Adidas gear since we are an affiliated Adidas club. Shoes are very important and your player must select shoes that are comfortable and will last the season.
IS PLAYING TIME EQUAL FOR ALL PAYING PLAYERS?
Playing time is determined by each team coach and depending on key positions and ability per player and per event. So no, there may not be equal tournament playing time for every player. Key positions are “won” by physical ability, coachable ability, team dynamics and player attitude.
WHAT HAPPENS TO OUR MONEY IF WE CHOOSE NOT TO COMPLETE THE SEASON?
In very rare circumstances a player may choose to quit the team. Once the agreement has been signed by a legal guardian or parent, the total fee is due the club regardless. Each budget per team is determined by the number of players per team. Many of the expenses are paid out even before the players have started practice and almost all before the first of the new year. The payment scale is 40% due at signing and equal payments until March.
WILL MY PLAYER BE KICKED OFF THE TEAM IF I MISS A PAYMENT?
Staff, coaches and administrative person all have families. We understand that things come up that we cannot control. If it does happen, please call UPVBC admin and discuss options. If we do not hear from you to talk about any financial matters and you miss payments, it is possible that your player will not be allowed to participate in events, practice or other team activities until the account has been made current or paid in full. Every case is different and will be considered on a Case by Case basis.
IF MY PLAYER IS INJURED, WILL SHE BE REPLACED ON THE TEAM?
Of course it depends on if the injury is a Season Ending injury or the timeframe of the injury compared to the total amount of time and events left for her to participate. We will work with the family to determine the best action that should be taken. Regardless any type of injury should be reported to the coach and then club admin ASAP. There are Incident Report forms that the region will handle for your insurance coverage through USAV.
WE HAVE ENCOUNTERED BULLYING BEFORE WITH MY DAUGHTER. HOW DO YOU HANDLE THAT?
All of our coaches are SafeSport Certified and have been through training to recognize bullying or hazing. The player should have a discussion with her coach immediately so that the coach will be aware of any of these types of behavior. The coaches have a process in which they will observe, discuss and if unable to address themselves, will get the Age Group Coordinators and Club Director involved in the solving process.
OUR FAMILY HAS MULTIPLE COMMITMENTS DURING THE YEAR, WILL OUR PLAYER BE PENALIZED FOR MISSING PRACTICE OR TOURNAMENTS?
Player commitment should be discussed by the family before committing to club volleyball. As with all spots, commitment and team bonding is a crucial part of team sports. Missing a practice and missing a tournament are vastly different. You should always, ALWAYS inform your coach what the circumstance is for missing and give them plenty of time to plan a practice or plan a line-up for a tournament. Missing several practices will probably influence a coach’s decision on tournament play.
HOW DO WE KNOW IF OUR COACH IS KNOWLEDGABLE OR SAFE?
We can truthfully say that Ultimate Performance Volleyball Club has the most knowledgeable and experienced coaching staff around this area. Each coach must pass a back ground screening process, be IMPACT Certified (Increased Mastery and Professional Application of Coaching Theory), SafeSport Certified through USAV and OKRVA. Each year a coach’s membership will not be fulfilled if these certifications are not completed. The club also has criteria for each coach to follow and will be guided by our Club Director and Coaching Admin staff.
Please check out our coach’s page of the web site to review all coaches within the club. Coaching assignments are in the working and may not be reflected Per Team Per Coach prior to October.
